The Benders Bus Tours day runs six hours and is built so lunch lands in the middle. • Pickup is offered from any Adelaide location, including airports, cruise ports and Airbnbs, and bookings are capped at 11 people.

The Hills & Hahndorf Hideaway, from $175 per person with a maximum of eight guests, includes 45-minute tastings at The Lane Vineyard and Sidewood Estate (with The Lane or Nepenthe as alternatives), cheese at Woodside Cheese Cellar and a two-course German lunch with a glass of beer or wine. One recent guest named the Haus restaurant as the lunch venue and called the serving large. The Hahndorf & Hills Wine and/or Gin Tour, from $232 per person, adds a Haigh’s chocolate factory tour (Melba’s on Sundays), a gin tasting at Grünthal Brew and a flight at Golding Wines before lunch at Haus Hahndorf, then finishes at Sidewood. For a longer day, Experience Hahndorf & Barossa, from $125 per person, spends the morning in Hahndorf and has lunch at Kies Family Wines’ Monkey Nut Café in the Barossa, with a tasting in the cellar door after. • Adelaide Hills & Hahndorf Hop-On Hop-Off Wine Tour ($71): lunch, alcohol and cellar-door tasting fees are all excluded. You eat at one of the stops on the loop, which is easy to plan around the hourly timetable.
• Private Wine Tours McLaren Vale or Adelaide Hills ($171): lunch is excluded, but the day is yours to shape, and one guest described a leisurely lunch in Hahndorf.

The region has over 90 wine labels and 50 cellar doors, and a good number serve proper food. Opening days vary, so check before you set out and book at weekends.

• The Lane Vineyard, Hahndorf: the restaurant opens Thursday to Monday, 12 to 3pm, and the cellar door daily from 10am. Its experiences include a 10-course Ultimate Chef’s Table.
• Sidewood Estate, Hahndorf: cellar door and restaurant on River Road, opened in 2020 and open daily 11am to 5pm, with bookings through OpenTable.
• Bird in Hand, Woodside: LVN Restaurant sits on the estate beside a kitchen garden, and the cellar door opens daily 11am to 5pm.
• Golding Wines, Lobethal: the Ginkgo Restaurant opens from 11:30am, and the winery says bookings are essential.
• Pike & Joyce, Lenswood: the restaurant runs daily from 12 to 4pm, on a 25-hectare vineyard planted on former apple and pear orchards.
• Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard, Lenswood: restaurant and cellar door are open seven days, and the winery reports two chef hats for a third year in 2026.
• Howard Vineyard, Nairne: the Clover + Stone restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
• Barristers Block, Woodside: grazing platters in a converted 1850s hayshed, open daily 11am to 5pm, with “Fireside Feed Me” menus in winter.
• Petaluma, Woodside: walk-in tastings and platters are subject to availability, and the cellar door is currently open Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 4:30pm, while weekday renovation works run. Two bookable packages pair a tasting with a platter for two: Expressions of Chardonnay ($35 per person, a new listing) and Croser sparkling ($35 per person).

Lunch in Hahndorf on your own

Hahndorf is about 30 minutes’ drive from Adelaide along the South Eastern Freeway, and Adelaide Metro recommends the 801 or T801 bus for visiting from the city. Main Street has over 40 cafes, pubs and restaurants within a 1 km strip, so lunch needs no booking on most days.

From Main Street, a 1.5 km walking circuit links wine outlets including Somerled and the Adelaide Hills Wine Bar, and Sidewood can be reached by bus.
