About This Experience

This is a two-region day. The Adelaide Hills half covers Hahndorf, Beerenberg Farm and Melba's Chocolates in Woodside; the wine tastings and lunch are in the Barossa Valley. The standard departure is Stamford Plaza on North Terrace at 8:40 to 8:45 am, with pickups included from Adelaide CBD hotels, Glenelg Beach hotels and, for cruise passengers, Outer Harbor.

After the drive up through the Hills, the first stop is 90 minutes in Hahndorf, described by the operator as Australia's oldest German settlement, with time for the main street's boutiques, artisan shops and cafes. Beerenberg Farm, a fifth-generation family farm on the edge of town, follows for 30 minutes of jam, chutney and sauce tastings; strawberry picking runs from November to April at an extra cost paid to the farm. A 10-minute stop at Melba's Chocolates in Woodside lets you watch the chocolate and lolly equipment at work.

The drive north to the Barossa passes forest and farmland where you may spot kangaroos and koalas. Lunch is at the Monkey Nut Café at Kies Family Wines, followed by a tasting at the family's ironstone cottage cellar door, about 75 minutes in all. Seppeltsfield comes next, reached along the Avenue of Palms, with about 40 minutes split between the JamFactory craft studios, Vasse Virgin and the Octeine café.

The last stop is a 45-minute tasting at Ubertas Wines, a boutique family-owned Barossa winery founded by two brothers, before the drive back to Adelaide. Purchases and extra drinks are not included.
